  • At the forefront of biomedical research

    The research enterprise of The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine garnered $219.4 million in external funding in FY 2015. According to 2015 U.S. News & World Report, research in the UI Carver College of Medicine is ranked 11th among public institutions. UI Carver College of Medicine faculty members are also some of the most productive when measured by NIH dollars.

    The enterprise is overseen by Patricia Winokur, MD, associate dean for clinical and translational sciences and Amy Lee, PhD, assistant dean for scientific affairs. Robert Piper, PhD, directs the UI Carver College of Medicine’s core research facilities.

    Many College faculty members are internationally renowned for their research. Four faculty members are Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigators, twelve are members of the Institute of Medicine and two are members of the National Academies of Sciences.
